In this week’s blog, we get to know some more of our stockists and learn of their favorite local spots, as well as what they’re loving right now in design!

This week we spoke to the charming James Michael Howard. In addition to Jim’s thriving interiors business, he also owns and operates the successful retail interiors stores Mrs. Howard and Max and Company along with his wife Phoebe Howard. Their first store, Mrs. Howard, has been a staple in Jacksonville, Florida since 1996 and just five years later, they added another store, Max & Company. Now, the Howards have Mrs. Howard and Max & Company stores in Jacksonville, Jacksonville Beach, Florida, Atlanta, Georgia, and Charlotte, North Carolina.

What’s your favorite color to use at the moment and what’s your favorite way to use it?

I love using all colors, but one of my favorites to work with is sky blue. It works with everything - there's no color that it won't work with!

What is a piece that you're always looking for more of?

I always looks for chic, unusual pieces like an interesting table, bookcase or chair and then work around that. I tell my staff to look for extraordinary things and then find a way to use them - always keep an eye out for one of a kinds.

What’s your favorite local coffee shop to stop into on the way to work?

Biscotti’s has been around forever and everyone knows and loves it. It’s a neighborhood staple for breakfast, lunch or dinner. The waitstaff never changes and it’s a very friendly place!

What’s your favorite local happy hour spot for when you need an end of week treat?

Atlas in Atlanta is always good - great bar and great food.

Next, we asked the wonderful Meg Braff some questions and learned more about her gorgeous storefront in Locust Valley, NY. Known for her exuberant, yet classic style, Meg fully embraces color and pattern and mixes pieces from various eras to create spaces that are effortless and inviting.

What’s your favorite color to use at the moment and what’s your favorite way to use it?

I am continuously returning to light blues and greens with a bit of a chartreuse bite. My favorite color of the moment, however, is saffron— I'd use it as a wall lacquer or as a grasscloth wall covering to provide warmth in a space, or as a pair of fabulous porcelain lamps. It’s a rich color that adds some sun and sparkle to a room and mixes well with so many other colors I love.

What is a piece that you're always looking for more of?

I'm always on the lookout for small benches and ottomans with interesting shapes. They are so useful and can fit in any space, be it in a foyer, under a console as extra seating, at the foot of a bed or in a bathroom. I buy them whenever I see them! I especially like the Bunny Williams Home Charlottesville bench and stool

What’s your favorite local coffee shop to stop into on the way to work?

In the city I love to grab a coffee and a snack at Sant Ambroeus at Park Avenue and 61st, a quick skip from my apartment. Locust Valley is sadly in need of a chic coffee spot! Let's fix that!

What’s your favorite local happy hour spot for when you need an end of week treat?

At the end of a long week my favorite thing to do is relax with my husband and a glass of wine on our terrace.
